Department of Accounting
The accounting department is considered one of the departments that escorted the foundation of the Applied Science Private University; the specializations forming the Faculty of Economics & Administrative Sciences was specially accredited by the higher education board in HKJ on 10/4/1995.
The educational journey of the accounting department started on 19/10/1991 with 71 students. The number of accounting students took an increasing trend over the years to reach its peak during the academic year 2011/2012; where thenumber of enrollments within the department exceeded (1366) decomposed into 14 different Arab and foreign nationalities. Currently the number of enrollments in English and Arabic path is (362) & (335) respectively. Moreover, the department provides teaching services to other (2000) students in the Faculty of Economics & Administrative Sciences.
The accounting department celebrated the first graduation ceremony during the academic year of 1994/1995. The ceremonies rolled over the years to reach up to 22 graduation ceremonies by 2015/2016, where the number of graduates from English and Arabic paths totaled (527) & (3692) respectively. Some of which pursued their higher education and earned their Masters and PhDs degrees in accountancy; others were attracted by different institutions in and outside Jordan where some of them managed to occupy a key positions in their fields.
The graduates of the accounting department has succeeded in achieving a proven track in the various fields of work cited by the increasing demands received by the department from various institutions to provide them with a list of the graduates each semester to choose from.
The challenges that confronts the profession are endless; among of which are those arising from the social and economic transformations that excreted a new accounting problems and difficulties driven by the acute competition that currently witnessing an era of globalization, free trade, information revolution, which in turn necessitated the usage of unconventional accounting methods that incentivize the creative thinking to innovate new accounting methods and solutions aligned with the economical and social turbulences.
The faith that overwhelms the accounting department to keep the enrollments posted with the continuous development of the profession; the department, and its faculty members are guided to use the modern teaching techniques and updating the study plan accordingly to fuel the markets with competent accountants enjoying the ability to absorb the newly emergent issues in the field.
To approach to this end the first study plan was prepared during the academic year 1991/1992, and it was updated by issuing the second study plan during the academic year 1995/1996, and it was followed by the adjustments need to form the third study plan that was issued during the academic year 2001/2002, the latter was adjusted to include the latest scientific developments during the academic year 2007/2008. the forth study plan was prepared during the academic year 2009/2010 to include the newly technological updates and the market force requirements; which was followed by some amendments that formed the fifth study plan during the academic year 2014/2015, to reach the final amendment that formed the sixth study plan during the academic year 2016/2017. The study plan for the masters degree was amended during the academic year 2015/2016 to include the latest updates in the profession.
On 3rd June 1998 the department organized the second accounting conference in cooperation with the Jordanian Accountant Association “Arab Accountant and 21st century challenges” and submitted many papers and articles that concern this object.
In alignment with the updated study plans the department started to teach many courses with the aid of computer (financial statements analysis, quantitativemethods, and accounting information systems) at the beginning of academic year 2003/2004. Other accounting courses are taught in English by using acoustic and visual devises in order to support students with all new teaching techniques. Also, the department has (2) computer labs for teaching and learning purposes. As well as, the classroom equipped with data show.
On the other hand, the department has started postgraduate program (Master) in accounting in accordance with the standard requirements during the academic year 2005/2006(dissertation path), the number of students reached (40) by the academic year 2009/2010, the total graduates has reached (127 - dissertation path) & (1- comprehensive exam) up to date. The program was specially accredited by the higher education board in HKJ during the academic year 2007, and the path was applicable by the department during the academic year 2014/2015.
During 2009/2010, and in the line with the local and global challenges, the department launched new plan for teaching bachelor degree in accounting in English, the number of enrollments reached (204) the moment it was launched.
The main character of activities in the department is continuous; these are demonstrated by publishing many articles in journals, preparing working papers, publishing new text books, and participating in many conferences. The annual report reflects these professional and scientific activities of staff members.
To secure that the graduates are aligned with the market requirements; the department holds many professional training courses (e.g. CPA, CMA, JCPA, etc.) as well as short courses (e.g. Financial statement analysis, bank reconciliations, intermediate accounting from the IFRS perspective, etc.)

4- Combining between theory and practice in accounting to arm the students with the market requirements that aids them to coexist the imposed challenges and competition.

6- Providing professional expertise and consultations to local and foreign organizations
7- Activating and developing scientific research, seminars, and lectures.
8- Executing professional training courses (CPA, CMA…) and meet the ambitions of many young accountants.
9- Promoting scientific relationships between other universities accounting departments.
